Asset Overview

Meteor Crater is a meteorite impact crater approximately 37 miles east of Flagstaff and 18 miles west of Winslow in the northern Arizona Painted Desert of the United States. Also known as Barringer Crater in honor of Daniel Barringer, who was first to suggest that it was produced by meteorite impact, the family still own the crater and have created a world-class museum and viewing platform. The metorite is called the Canyon Diablo Metorite, named after nearby Canyon Diablo, a once thriving wild west shantytown—now a lost ghost town filled with legends and lore. Situated right off the famous Route 66, the crater has been featured in a number of movies over the years, being one of the largest and best preserved meteorite impact sites in the world—certainly the most visited.
