Asset Overview
This is my final version of a Tilt Brush project called “Majdanek”. Majdanek was a World War II Nazi death camp, situated at the eastern border of Poland. I visited this camp several times, made many pictures, wrote about it and also made a painting of one of the most shocking scenes I’ve ever seen and experienced. A barrack filled to the roof with shoes in all kinds of sizes and colours. Adults, children, baby, all lying there in absolute silence, as I alone was watching them, deeply saddened by what I saw. The painting I made of this scene is now property of the Westerbork Memorial site in the Netherlands. you may have heard of it. http://www.wauwel.nl/wordpress/wp-content/gallery/olieverf/majdanekgroot.jpg It represents a tiny piece of hope however: I left away the ceiling, cut the iron wires and let shoes drifting away to heaven, to freedom.
