Asset Overview

The whole mosaic which is found on the right of the trabeation of the cattedral of Terracina (Italy) tells a story. Starting from left, it is possible to recognize a monster with a wild animal's head, an eagle with spreaded wings, a couple of deers facing each other with a plaited palm in the middle, a palmette followed by two birds facing each other and a cage containing a third bird. The inscription GUTIFRED: EDGI MILES refers to this scene which was based on the trabeation. The message given by these images is «soteriologic and exhortatory» at the same time, that is: whoever shall follow God's teachings shall receive Eternal salvation as a reward. Dated between the end of the XII and the beginning of the XIII century.
