Asset Overview

The basioccipital is an endochondral element which forms the caudalmost floor of the cranial cavity. The bulbous occipital condyle protrudes from its caudal surface to articulate with cervical vertebrae. Passing over the dorsal surface of the element is the foramen magnum, the passage of the spinal cord. Passing through portions of the rostral portion of the element is the median eustachian tube.
