Asset Overview
This statue in the Vatican depicts Antoninus Pius, Emporer of Rome from 138 to 161, succeeded Hadrian, his adopted father, and preceeded Marcus Aurelius and Lucius Verus, his adopted sons. He is known for presiding over Rome and creating remarkable peace and prosperity. Antoninus also erected the Antonine Wall after a successful campaign into Scotland early on in his career as emperor.
