Asset Overview

Skull of Ovis canadensis auduboni, a disputed subspecies of Bighorn Sheep that used to inhabit much of the Great Plains region including Southeast Montana. There is debate whether or not these animals represent a distinct subspecies from the common Rocky Mountain Bighorn (Ovis canadensis canadensis). Regardless, populations of Bighorn sheep became extinct in many regions of the Great Plains around the 1920s from over hunting, habitat loss, and disease. Some populations have been reintroduced to some national parks and can be seen today. Scanned with Artec Leo and edited in Arctec Studios.
