Blender, 3dmax scanline, obj, fbx, before opening any of these file versions you need to put them into 'Cardboard boxes Metal shelve Wooden pallet-all map'! Otherwise, the coatings will not be visible.

No cleaning up necessary, just drop the model into your scene and start rendering.
OBJ and FBX file formats are exported directly from 3ds Max.
