Asset Overview

The Carceri tablets were a series of etchings by self-proclaimed architect Giovanni Piranesi. In them, Piranesi tested the limits of experiential architecture. Prison staircases and paths transverse the scenes seemingly in infinitude. No apparent beginnings; no perceived endings to the endless labyrinth. This restrictive chaos forms the underpinning fabric of the precinct. Intrinsic to the client's persona, are the characteristics expressed throughout the city campus design. Particularly of note is Storey Hall. Expressed within this building is a synergy between order and chaos. It's spiral staircase is a perfect example of this. From this basis the design direction was extrapolated. Key to the labyrinths presented by Piranesi is the concept of porosity - horizontal and vertical. Primarily, through the circulation space which shapes the precinct. Internal streets provide an arterial function, laneways further segmentation , and finally paths between building providing the integral vertical porosity
