Cloontuskert is an early ecclesiastical site, traditionally founded by St Faithlec, the site has a large number of cross-slabs and inscribed stones from various periods located around the graveyard. This stone is an interesting addition to the cross collection at Cloontuskery. A sun cross and Triskelion are linked online a cross shaft. The triskelion is a common symbol found throghout religious art work dating back to the neolithic, and most likely represents the trinity in this Irish context. The addition of the Sun Cross, also a prehistoric symbol is interesting, and may show some understanding of pre-christian traditions, and an mark of the new christian religion writing over an older tradition in Roscommon
