Asset Overview

For its production the factory mainly used colorful plastic materials, that reassured a durable, corrosion free, light and cheap outcome. The designer's creative freedom was often cut short because of the technical possibilities. After expanding the technology of plastic production the designers had their freedom to think of new, interesting ways to deal with the shapes of the lighting. Instead of a former circle based lamp stand, the designers/constructors could come up with new shapes for it. Before the round shape was determined by the limitations of the machines cutting the metal. During the first years of Estoplast the lampshades were done in carton (paper), which soon was replaced by polyethylen. The ‘foreign’ material of glass further expanded the experiments with material and shape.
