Synthetic silk, seed beads, plastic sequins.
Synthetic silk tapestry with colorful seed beads and plastic sequins portraying the Lwa (spirits, Lwa is sg. and pl.) Èzili Freda, Danbala, and Ayida Wèdo. This flag has a back border, which is fairly unusual for these cool-tempered spirits. There is a bright gold backdrop. Haitian Vodou drapo are used in ceremonies to honor the spirits. They have also become a major tourist art attraction. The spirit Èzili Freda is a Lwa of love, fortune, abundance, and business savy, so her vèvè (sacred drawing) is a pink or red heart (featured center). Danbala is a wide elder spirit associated with serpents and his wife Ayida Wèdo is a wise elder regarded as the rainbow serpent...
