Asset Overview

This is a sample of hornblende, the most common kind of amphibole. It may be confused with other dense black minerals unless good cleavage can bee seen. (Hornblende has distintive cleavages that interset at about 60 and 120 degrees.) However, the cleavage may not fully develop -- as in this specimen -- and it takes a real active imagination to pick it out.
