With the rapid disappearance of forests in Colombia, Proyecto Tití recognizes the importance of permanently protecting forests for cotton-top tamarins and the numerous other Colombian species that depend on these areas. As forests are affected by farming and urban development, forest areas are fragmented, leaving cotton-top tamarins highly vulnerable to predation and capture for illegal pet trade. There is an urgent need to connect these isolated forest patches, to create larger forest corridors and protect more forests suitable for the survival of cotton-top tamarins.
