I used the lidar dataset, available here: https://cloud.sdsc.edu/v1/AUTH_opentopography/PC_Bulk/HI09_Big_Island/
After rasterizing the depth map, I imported that into ZBrush as an alpha, and made a new mesh. Then, after remeshing, I baked the details and displacement. Finally I textured it in Substnce Painter to try messing with the proexess. I think it turned out alrightr for a proof of concept piupeline.
