Packaging from “The Golden Elephant” pharmacy in Kraków.
The cardboard packaging for medicines comes from the “Pod Złotym Słoniem” [“The Golden Elephant”] pharmacy in Kraków. It consists of two parts: a container for storing medicines and a lid with a label. Both parts are bound with a blue paper security seal on the longer side with the inscription: “Apteka Pod Zł. Słoniem. H. Bartmański i Sp. Kraków”.
In the centre of the label, the composition of the dispensed medicine is given: “Extr. Opii liquos.; Extr. Belladonnae; Butyr Cacao”, i.e. water extract of opium, deadly nightshade extract and cocoa butter as a filler and lubricant. These had an analgesic and diastolic effect.
