***Piltdown Man*** Location: Piltdown, Sussex, England. Age: modern. Material: plaster cast. Dimensions: length, 165 mm; width, 139 mm; height, 113 mm. Notes: RLA catalog no. 433rp30 (cast). Endocranium. The Piltdown skull was first presented as the “missing link” between modern humans and great ape ancestors to a gathering of British geologists in 1912 by Charles Dawson; determined in 1953 to be a fraudulent "reconstruction" of modern human and orangutan bones. Cast made between 1930 and 1952 by Mr. F. O. Barlow of the R. F. Damon & Co., London. Model by Jordyn Gray.
