Project Ala

Project Ala seeks to expand habitat corridor reforestation, understand community resource needs, build sustainable forest management structures with local stakeholders, and complete research that promotes adaptive learning. One of the main goals is to expand the isolated remnants of the corridor’s connections in the Saint Luce Littoral Forest, while also tackling unsustainable resource use in the local community to safeguard local populations of four Endangered lemurs. Despite local and regional forest management, unsustainable land-use practices such as logging and rotational agriculture have contributed to the loss of 90% of littoral forests, making them one of the most threatened ecosystems in Madagascar.
