Reserva Natura

The Natura Reserve was created in 2009 as a corporate social responsibility initiative of Corporación Montelimar. In an area of 615.78 manzanas, located between the community of San Cayetano and Los Gutiérrez Norte, where Corporación Montelimar found total degradation of the ecosystem, it undertook the task of totally reforesting the area, planting 433,997 trees of 33 species native to the area, reactivating the capture of rainwater, which has allowed the creation of the two current lakes, with a depth of 25 and 27 meters respectively. Reforestation has restored flora and improved fauna habitat, and has collected 3.6 million cubic meters of water, equivalent to 950 million gallons. This water source is located in the Citalapa sub-basin, Las Tablas micro-basin, in the municipality of San Rafael del Sur. Corporación Montelimar S.A. and FUNDENIC/FONDO NATURA signed an agreement to manage the micro watershed and work on the conservation of the tropical dry forest and associated species. This alliance is led at
