This forest was burnt about two years ago and that fire was caused by human economic activities such as charcoal making andsearching for fuel wood. The aim of this project isto restore the nature of Mkussu Nature Forest Reserve by planting a total of 380,000 indigenous trees including some indigenous tree species such as Markhamia Lutea and Albizia Albida.
This forest is managed by the central government of Tanzania and serves as water catchment, soil protection, a source of timber and non-timber products for millions of rural people, electricity through HEP plants and biodiversity hotspot home for hundreds ofspecies.
This project aims to achieve 4 main goals: The restoration of burnt areas by planting 250,000 indigenous trees. The reduction of carbon emission. An increase of knowledge transfer about environment conservation to the community. And the protection of water reservoirs. Therefore, providing benefits to all citizens living within Lushoto District and Tanzania as a whole.
