This spindle whorl is one of at least 15 found at the back of Victoria Cave, Yorkshire, along with many other small Romano-British artefacts, mostly in areas that were dark and difficult to reach.
Many Roman soldiers came from places with strong beliefs about caves, and they appear to have initiated a new cave cult here at Victoria Cave.
