Asset Overview

Treblinka, infamous in its role as one of the three Operation Reinhard death camps constructed by the Nazis to facilitate their genocide of European Jews, Poles and gypsies during the Holocaust, was actually two sites. These sites (Treblinka I (labour camp) and Treblinka II (extermination centre)) consisted of a series of buildings, including gas chambers and barracks. Tiles of this type (red ceramic with star motif) were a frequent find in Trench Treb04 (2013), located in the region where the gas chambers are believed to have been, suggesting that this tile originated from one of the chambers. The motif is part of the Dziewulski and Lange company logo (the other part being the letters D and L, not visible on this example), a tile manufacturer.
