Asset Overview

**Truncus Arteriosus** The multiple congenital malformations of the heart and great vessels included the repaired coarctation of the aorta with the ligation of the previously patent ductus arteriosus. The D-transpositions of the great vessels was accompanied by a disparity in their external diameter, with the aorta diameter almost half of that of the pulmonary artery. The tricuspid valve was totally atretic and there was severe aortic stenosis. Atrial and septal defects were present and there were significant gross changes in some of the left ventricular myocardium which hemorrhage in purple-black discoloration. The hypertrophy of the right ventricular sections was evident histologically. The right ventricular chamber was extremely diminutive as one would anticipate with tricuspid atresia. The media and abundant adventitia in the small muscular arteries less than 300 mu in diameter.
