050 Calcarenite (Piedra de San Julián)

This sample is a calcarite or biocalcarite. It is a very porous sedimentary rock biocalcarenite. The main components are: calcite (70 %), iron-rich dolomite (25 %), quartz (5 %) and traces of clay minerals (illite). In terms of texture, the rock shows fossils, generally smaller than 2 mm in size, although bands of various grain sizes have been found. The rock presents a wide variety of fossil bryozoans, foraminifera, red algae, echinoderms fragments and interparticle porosity. https://web.ua.es/digitalrocks
