Asset Overview

Sequence of Tortonian carbonatic turbidites (light gray, bedded) deposited above volcanic basement (highly altered to white, yellow, reddish colors, with some bedding visible where the original rock is a tuff). The turbidites are capped by Messinian reef limestones of the Terminal Carbonate Complex. Three subdivisions within the turbidites can be seen easily here, because the middle part of the sequence is made of much finer, softer material, and it is therefore easily eroded and covered by vegetation. There is an [equivalent sequence on the nearby "La Molatilla" hill](https://skfb.ly/o7W8D). The outcrop is about 200 m wide. Las Negras, Cabo de Gata Natural Park, Almeria, Spain. *Lat 36.865840°, Lon -2.016941°* Drone scans made by [Apoorv Avasthy](https://sketchfab.com/Geology_LMU).
