Theobroma cacao
This cacoa pod grows on the evergreen cocoa tree, native to deep tropical regions of Meso-America. Cocoa trees are most commonly grown in the Ivory Coast, other African countries, and Brazil in agricultural settings. The trees can grow to be between 13-26 feet tall and the flowers are pollinated by tiny flies known as 'midges'. Each pod contains between 20-60 seeds/beans which are used in the production of chocolate, however the pulp of the seed pod can also be used in the production of various food products as well.
