Asset Overview

Some lovely folds in Lakes Marble Formation rocks in Connemara. This formation consists of marbles, metavolcanics, schists and quartzites. In this area, the intrusion of the Omey granite to the north has led to an overprint of thermal metamorphism on the regional metamorphism, and garnets are developed in the marble layers. This outcrop is close to the axis of the Connemara Antiform, a large fold that marks the final phase of deformation in Connemara.
