A sample of pegmatite collected at Doughboy Creek, in New Zealand's West Coast region. It crystallised from magma deep inside the continental crust, growing large crystals of quartz, mica and plagioclase. At a later time it was sheared by movement along the Alpine Fault, creating deformation bands that are not seen in most pegmatites.
This model was assembled using the 3D photogrammetry software Agisoft Metashape.
