Accession 1993.1.2122
This seed pod has a hidden story. Its narrative is embedded in a capsule body. A geological deep time of stored memory, intelligence and an enduring will to survive.
The buds of this tree appear as a cluster of narrow, horn-shaped fingers. The value of this tree lies in its characteristic growth habit. It branches close to the ground and forms a dense globular crown and under suitable climatic conditions is an ideal shelterbelt tree. The branches droop close to ground level, to steady the whole plant against windthrow in the wild. It has proven to be adaptable and drought tolerant.
Loaned by the World Museum Liverpool from its Herbarium Collections.
