Modern specimen of the whelk snail *Busycon carica* from Beaufort County, South Carolina (PRI 76867). Encrusting barnacles cover much of the shell. Specimen is from the research collections of the [Paleontological Research Institution](http://www.priweb.org), Ithaca, New York. Length of shell is approximately 12.5 cm. Model by Emily Hauf.
