Asset Overview
The researcher Jean Georges Harmelin, marine biologist, installed in 1969 pristine surfaces consisting of a framework of about 0.5m ² on which are fixed 12 plots of limestone. The objective was to study colonization and dynamics of biological succession of species. Among the frame installed on various sites in the Marseille region, only two are still maintained. The 3D models show the frame located in an underwater cave entrance by about 30 meters of depht. This frame is still followed by teams of scientists. In particular, it has validated dating methods of red coral for the study of its growth.
Underwater photogrammetry carried out as part of a collaboration between Septentrion Environnement and LIS (Laboratory of Computer Science and Systems) Aix-Marseille University, UMR CNRS 7020.
