Asset Overview
3D model of a chestnut in green fruit cup with stem. Before the chestnuts ripen, a spiny initially green shell protects the fruit from moisture and dryness. The spines also deter hungry animals. In autumn, when the fruit is ripe, the shell dries out, turns brown and opens.
This immature chestnut was separated from the tree by the numerous storms in the summer of 2021.
