A distinctive member of the family Tyrannidae, the Long-tailed Tyrant sports a sharp black and white plumage with a pair of elongated central tail feathers. The Long-tailed Tyrant is actually so distinct that it is the sole member of its genus, *Colonia*. Despite it being the only member of its genus, it is a fairly widespread species in the lowlands of Central and South America.
