Asset Overview

At this place, there are three beaches of different ages. The model shows the contact between a Pleistocene oolitic fossil beach (darker gray, below) and a 100 years old cemented beach deposit (yellowish gray, above). The latter can be dated because in addition to modern bivalves and gastropods, it has rounded andesitic cobbles embedded, which come from a nearby abandoned quarry for which the age of operation is known. The recent cemented beach also contains clasts of oolitic fossil beach. The outcrop is about 1 m tall and currently sits 1 m above high tide. In default view, SW is to the left and NE is to the right, and it is located at the southern end of the present-day sandy beach. Playazo de Rodalquilar, Cabo de Gata Natural Park, Spain. Lat 36°51'29.29"N, Lon 2°0'13.40"W.
