Asset Overview
Red Mountain is a volcano just north of Flagstaff, Arizona along US 180 on the way to the Grand Canyon. There is a short hike into the heart of the volcano, where it has collapsed and reveals the inner-workings of this feature. It sits near the boundary between the Coconino and Kaibab National Forests in Norther Arizona.
While hiking the trail, look for small black obsidian beads, known as "Apache Tears". The landscape also features a number of large Ponderosa pine trees, volcanic ash fins, and numerour hoodoos, especially on the upper arms of the formation.
