Asset Overview
Volcaniclastic sandstone package with a rhodolith-rich bed at the base. These beds form the beginning of the Tortonian-Messinian sedimentary sequence above the volcanic basement (Serravallian - Tortonian) in this area, and contain rounded volcanic cobbles and pebbles. In fact, many of the rhodoliths have volcanic fragments as a core: one is labeled in the model, but you can find several more. A few meters above the sandstone, the sedimentary sequence continues with carbonatic turbidites. In default view, the outcrop is oriented with ENE to the left and WSW to the right. Cala del Cuervo beach, Las Negras, Cabo de Gata Natural Park, Spain. Lat 36°52'20.79"N, Lon 2° 0'10.43"W.
