Asset Overview

We live in Portland, OR – the home of some of the most beautiful roses ever grown, which also allows us amateur green thumbs to grow our own. Shavaun (the most scanned “wife” on Sketchfab) has been bitten by the Oregon climate and has cultivated several exceptionally beautiful roses in past couple of years. It is why I decided to clip (with her permission of course) three beautiful, but small roses to scan using Apple’s photogrammetry API in MacOS 12 & their demo dev iOS app. Unlike my previous method of rotating the camera around the object, I decided to use WWDC’s suggested method of using a motorized turntable. To my surprise it worked, and well at that. My theory why turntable scanning works is the iOS app also capture a depth map layer that is used to isolate the object even more from the background. Lit w. two RGB LED lights w. compact softboxes & a LED Ring light above. Blender was used to create baked AO/Shadow Diffuse, as well as specular, transparency & emission to fake subsurface light.
