Asset Overview

Spotted Barbtail *Premnoplex brunnescens* [MLZ 5480](https://arctos.database.museum/guid/MLZ:Bird:5480) 15 April 1927 San Jose Nuevo, Abajo Orellana, Ecuador Collected by Carlos Olalla Physical specimen held by the Moore Laboratory of Zoology, Occidental College, Los Angeles, CA Spotted Barbtails are unassuming members of the family Furnariidae, with sharply pointed tails and an overall brownish plumage. However, their nest-building behavior is very interesting. A study conducted by [Harold Greeney in 2008](https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Harold-Greeney/publication/228917410_Nest_construction_behavior_and_variability_in_nest_architecture_and_nest_placement_of_the_Spotted_Barbtail_Premnoplex_brunnescens/links/5411e8ed0cf2bb7347dadb4a/Nest-construction-behavior-and-variability-in-nest-architecture-and-nest-placement-of-the-Spotted-Barbtail-Premnoplex-brunnescens.pdf) brought light to the incredibly intricate process by which this species constructs its nest.
