Asset Overview

This model is constructed from a plaster cast of a trilobite specimen that is part of the display collection in Earth Sciences at UON. Since trilobites are segmented, the most common fossils of them are often [just the pygidium](https://skfb.ly/6SKu7) ('tail plate') as it is the largest single fragment. It is more unusual for an intact specimen like this to be preserved (note that the specimen is not the original). Trilobites are arthropods (same phylum as insects) and are strictly Palaeozoic, arising in the 'Cambrian Explosion' and becoming extinct during the Permain-Triassic mass extinction. I do not know the more detailed taxonomy of this specimen, so if anyone out there knows, leave a comment and I would happy to add the description.
