Trilobites (class Trilobita) are a group of extinct marine animals that first appeared in the Early Cambrian perion (521 million years ago). They are the earliest-known group of arthropods and among the most successful of all early animals, existing in Earth's oceans for almost 300 million years (until the end of the Permian 252 million years ago).
