Volcanic Rock Scan - duplicated version

This scan faced me with the limits of my equipment. Using Nikon D7200, with a kit lens, 18-140mm. Sample size is only 37mm across, making it very hard to focus properly, and capture enough detail. At first, I have tried with more than 350 shots, in 7 separate orbits around the objecs, but wasn't really happy witht he outcome. Finally, I decided to do focus stack, 3 orbits, 20 images each, + 4 shots covering the angles. Each shot was a focus stacked, 5-10 images each. Result is much, much better than before, with more details, and much, much shorter processing time, but it's not even close to waht I wanted it to be. I am happy tho, given that I'm using kit lens, with approximately x0.25 magnification. Can't wait to get my hands on the macro lens and ring light. I'm expecting a huge bump in quility.
