Asset Overview
This is the scan I made of a smoky quartz crystal I found on the beach.
It is all tumbled up, with lots of damage, and incredibly difficult to scan, and reproduce maps, at least with the equipment I have.
Cross-polarized workflow would probably help achieve better surface reconstruction.
I will revisit this model once I get those filters.
Main focus on this one tho was material reproduction. Again, very hard to do.
Entire rock is made out of same material. White areas are ones with more damage, where crystal is so sruched, it looks almost completely white.
Darker areas are cleaner, but still quite damaged from tumbling on sand and rocks.
I have managed to separate the areas quite well, but it's still not there, as it lacks any kind of transparency. Thing with this one is the complexity of internal reflections, that I have no idea how to reproduce.
If anyone can poit me to a tutorial for this type of material, I'd be very thankful.
