The eIF4E and eIF4G proteins, along with the eIF4A RNA helicase (not shown), form the eIF4F initiation complex which helps recruit ribosomal subunits to mRNA in eukaryotic cells. Shown is the eIF4E cap-binding protein bound to the truncated C-terminal region of the eIF4G protein and a description of the structural factors assisting binding and some of their implications.
