This sample of coarse grained [biotite](http://webmineral.com/data/Biotite.shtml) [K(Mg,Fe)₃AlSi₃O₁₀(OH,F)₂] comes from the Broken Hill district of New South Wales, Australia. It is dense, dark coloured and exhibits the characteristic perfect single (basal) cleavage of the mica group.
