Asset Overview

Fault contact between a phyllite-quartzite unit (bluish-grey) and a carbonatic unit (yellow to dark brown). The carbonatic unit is also cut by several low-angle faults, and is intensely tectonized. The shadow of the road sign is about 1 m long; the outcrop is oriented approximately south (left) to north (right) in default view. The large slickenside at the northern end dips to the west and the slip indicators on it show normal motion, consistent with this being part of a large low-angle normal fault system in the metamorphic core complex. Road cut along A-LP-816 near the town of Sierra Alhamilla, north of Almeria, Spain. Lat 36˚57'28.97''N, Lon 2˚24'14.15''W, elevation 455 m.
