Asset Overview

This is a fixed human heart that was donated for reasearch. This heart came from a 14 year old transplant recipent with severe hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. This means that their heart muscles thickened to the point where there was too little space in the ventricles for the heart to pump enough blood effectively in addition to the heart muscle being enlarged. The patient also had ventricular tachycardia, with a pacing lead visible in the model coming from the Right Atrium. This model was taken with the heart suspended from alligator clips to facilitate 3D scanning. This heart uses reference number Heart0281. We partner with [LifeSource](https://www.life-source.org/) to receive donated organs deemed not viable for transplant.
