This large specimen of turbidite was sampled from the Giro Beds, part of the early Permain deep water sucession that is part of the Barnard Basin of the souther New England Orogen. The Giro Beds crop out along Thunderbolts Way between Goucester and Nowendoc. It shows spectacular examples of syn-depositional sedimentary structures such as load casts and textbook examples of flame structures.
In addition to turbidites, the Giro Beds also contain sequences of massive mudstone, deep marine diamictites and [conglomerates](https://skfb.ly/6PqQz).
