Asset Overview
The Illustrious-class of Aircraft carriers consisted out of 4 units: Illustrious, Formidable, Victorious and Idomitable. They were all laid down in 1937 and launched in 1939/40, seeing heavy combat in WW2. They were the biggest and most heavily armoured class of Aircraft carriers the Royal Navy possessed, even though several treaties had to be obeyed. Overall they had a smaller amount of planes carried, compared to classes from other nations.
All ships fought in WW2: Victorious against Tirpitz, Illustrious against Littorio and Formidable against Vittorio Veneto to name a few. They saw service in both theatres of the war, even bombarding Japanese positions. All units served a few years after the war but were scrapped in the 1950s, Victorious even served until 1969.
This model was made with the US Navy recognition manual and is intended to be printed at 1/4000 scale, hence the lack of detail.
