This is a perfusion fixed human heart that was donated for research. This heart is noted for having relatively little epicardial fat, leading to this hearts unusual appearance. The coronary vessels are also well-pronounced. These arteries and veins supply the heart itself with the oxygen needed to function.
The atria are collapsed in this model, and the pulmonary artery and aorta are cannulated and used to suspend the heart from above.
