Asset Overview

The Admiral Hipper class of heavy cruisers was the first class of heavy cruisers built for the Kriegsmarine after the first world war and were used through the entire war. Five units were ordered in total, however only three saw service at all. Admiral Hipper, Blücher and Prinz Eugen were laid down in 1935/36 and got launched in 1937/38. Blücher got sunk in the very first battles of the second world war, whilst Hipper and Prinz Eugen continued to serve. Seydlitz and Lützow (not the Panzerschiff) got either scuttled, or sold to the soviets before they could be used. Hipper would be scuttled with heavy damage in dock in 1945, Prinz Eugen would be the only operational heavy unit to survive the war. She was gifted to the US Navy which then sunk her in nuclear tests, the wreck is still visible until today. This model depicts only Hipper, since Prinz Eugen looks a bit different. I made this model with only two pictures from the recognition manual of the navy and intended it for use with a 3D printer.
