This is a plastinated human heart that was donated for research. The donor was a 61 year old female with no known cardiac disease. This model has a window cut into the Right Ventricle to show how thin the cardiac muscle is at this location and to highlight the depth of the trabeculae and papillary muscle layers. In addition, the aortic valve can be seen closed when viewed superiorly. The heart was treated with a removable 3D scanning spray to assist with structured light scanning.
We partner with [LifeSource](https://www.life-source.org/) to receive donated organs deemed not viable for transplant.
